Come Walk -n- Roll for Homeless Veterans!
Join us for the 7th Annual VA2K Walk and help homeless Veterans!
This year, VA celebrates its 7th annual VA2K Walk and Roll event, and the Walla Walla VA Medical Center invites YOU to come join VA employees, Veterans, and your community to walk for wellness and in support of Walla Walla VA's Health Care for Homeless Veterans program. Last year, approximately 24,700 people at over 160 VAs across the U.S. participated in the 6th annual VA2K event, contributing donations totaling $384,000. Help us exceed that number this year by participating and bringing a donation!
On Wednesday, May 17 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., come walk the grounds of both the Walla Walla VA and the Walla Walla Veterans Home. And consider bringing a donation to support Walla Walla VA's homeless program. Suggested items include green cleaning products (including brooms, mops, buckets, dust pans, dusters, sponges, kitchen gloves), Trac phones, and phone cards. Paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels would be beneficial as well. These items go a long way in supporting Veterans who have an opportunity to move into a new residence ending their homelessness, and these supplies will help them keep their new home clean.
Come walk the grounds of both the Walla Walla VA and the Walla Walla State Home.
During the short 2K walk (1.24 miles), visit sponsored tables along the way to include Blue Mountain Humane Society (along with adoptable pets), Walla Walla Vet Center, Red Cross, YMCA, WorkSource, Blue Mountain Action Council, Catholic Charities of Walla Walla, Walla Walla Community College, SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families), and more. You will also be able to visit with Walla Walla VA services such as Employee Health, Voluntary Services, and Health Care for Homeless Veterans, plus others.
Members of both the Riders of Washington and Combat Veterans International motorcycle groups will have their bikes on display, and we hope to have a few cars on display for a show and shine from the Blue Mountain Corvette Club and Historical Auto Club of Walla Walla. You can also participate in a scavenger hunt to find answers to some fun trivia questions! If you're not camera shy, get your picture taken at our photo booth using fun props. Many thanks to Walla Walla VA's Veteran Canteen Service who will provide a supply of healthy snack lunches for participants (first come, first served).
